Small enough for a shelf, a windowsill, a bedside table or a desk, and close enough to your eye that the detail has to hold up.

A table plant is looked at from about half a metre, which is a harder test than a tree in a corner. These are the ones we would put in front of a visitor.
The desk problem
A real desk plant needs light it never gets and water you forget to give it. This is the same look with neither requirement.
Repotting
Lift it out and drop it into whatever planter suits the room. There is no soil, nothing to cut and nothing to damage.
